"Sharifah Aryana, Sharifah Aleya "Mukhsin [4K Digitally Restored Version] TIFF Talk Salon"(TIFF official YouTube)
The Japan Foundation Asia Center’s new 4K digital restoration of the Malaysian director Yasmin Ahmad’s masterpiece Mukhsin will receive its world premiere at the World Focus section of the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival. On November 6, "TIFF Talk Salon," a live event featuring actors from the film, will be streamed online.
Mukhsin was given its world premiere at the 19th Tokyo International Film Festival (2006) and went on to win the Generation Kplus International Jury’s Grand Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival (2007). It has continued to receive screenings and acclaim around the world.
The Asia Center has carried out this new 4K digital restoration of Mukhsin, using a 35 mm positive print held by the Malaysian distributor Primeworks Studios that was selected from the currently confirmed prints of the film. The restoration utilized globally acclaimed Japanese film restoration technology. The digital grading was supervised by Low Soon Keong, the original cinematographer for Mukhsin. It is hoped that this restoration of the work of Yasmin Ahmad, who had a Japanese grandmother, will help to deepen bilateral exchange and further mutual cultural understanding between Japan and Malaysia, and beyond.
Don’t miss this chance to experience the remarkable Mukhsin in this newly restored version.
The rest of the World Focus section of the festival also features an unmissable lineup of Asian cinema.
